I would not do it in your situation because.ġ. I have skimmed over bad plaster with 1/4 drywall before and it came out super nice. Its an art and a lot of work, unless you are a good plaster person you will see seams and patch job. I do a lot of remodels and I have filled in the missing areas and plastered over them. I agree with everyone else, start fresh with new drywall. I'm not sure if the rules apply to the DIY forum but I figure better to be safe than sorry. Do I need to bring in help or is this something I can do myself? Here are some pics to give an idea of what I'm looking at. I'm pretty good at DIY type stuff but have never worked with lath/plaster and as I own the building I want to make sure it is done right. Also there is a shitty tile ceiling in about 1/4th of the total area that looks like 1x2 were attached to the lath and plaster ceiling and then the tiles were installed on the 1x2s. I discovered basically that I have a lath and plaster ceiling which is missing plaster in places/cracked in some.and some walls have been removed. I removed a section of the drop ceiling yesterday to get an idea of what I'm looking at and also peeked under most of the tiles. The wife unit has decreed that the drop ceiling has to go. So I purchased an ancient building about 2 years ago to start a business in and live in the apartment upstairs with my wife. ![]()
